110127P - REVIEW AND BRAINSTORMING SESSION FOR ISLAMIC INPUT IN MASTER OF ORTHOPEDIC PROGRAM

Paper written by Professor Omar H. Kasule

Introduction
The department of Orthopaedic has started its Master of Orthopaedic since June 2008. It is a four year program to train doctors to become Orthopaedic surgeon. The students are thought basic science and principles of Surgery in year one and they will continue with subspecialty and elective rotation till final professional exam. During this period the student will continue to work in the department of Orthopaedic in the hospital.

The department has included the “Islamic input in Orthopaedic program” for the Master of Orthopaedic student. The department feels it is timely to review the Islamic input to the student now since the first batch is entering final year.

Currently, the students are thought informally during their work in the ward and sometimes they join the Islamic input in Orthopaedic for undergraduate student. The difference with the undergraduate student is that the undergraduate student has already a structured program since their matriculation. Furthermore not all the Master student are Muslim.

With that in mind, the department believes that are more guidance should be given for the master in orthopaedic program. The initial plan of writing case report and case discussion without prior exposure and guidance from our colleague from the university is inadequate.
